With the house lights down, a man in a chair appears on stage and puts on his favorite record: the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical. The recording comes to life and The Drowsy Chaperone begins as the man in the chair looks on. Mix in two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not-so-bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan, and an intoxicated chaperone, and you have the ingredients for an evening of madcap delight.
The Drowsy Chaperone will be presented as a community production and will be open to ages 15 & up.
Please come to auditions with a monologue prepared (between 30 seconds – 1 minute) and also be prepared to be asked to do a cold read from the script.
You will also need to prepare 16-32 bars (about 30-60 seconds) of a musical theatre song that best showcases your singing ability. Please do not sing anything from The Drowsy Chaperone. Performers should bring an instrumental/karaoke version of their song on a phone to be plugged into our sound system. Please do not sing a cappella or with background vocals. We need to see your ability to stay on pitch with music and not have vocals that you are following.
When you sign up for this there is no fee. You need to sign up for an audition time.
